Enjoy a guided geology and local history hike on DLC protected Quarry Mesa Open Space. The hike will be followed by a few hours of service sprucing up the Madge Trail on top of Quarry Mesa.

All ages are welcome.  Snacks, work gloves, and equipment will be provided. Please bring plenty of water.

8:00 am:  Meet in the parking area at Rhyolite Regional Park, 1701 Crystal Valley Parkway, Castle Rock 80104

8:00-10:00 am:  Guided Geology and Local History Hike at Quarry Mesa Open Space

10:00-10:30 am:  Snack and break

10:30 – 12 noon:  Weed Wrangling along the Madge Trail at Quarry Mesa Open Space

Note: If you would like to join the group for weed wrangling only, meet at the restroom building at Rhyolite Regional Park at 10:00 am and a volunteer will guide you to the work location.

The event is FREE, but a $10 per person donation to DLC is suggested.

Quarry Mesa is owned by the Town of Castle Rock and protected through a conservation easement held by Douglas Land Conservancy.

Parking: Rhyolite Regional Park and at secondary trailhead east of Lions Paw Street

This 133-acre open space area on the west side of Rhyolite Regional Park was the site of the Town’s first Rhyolite stone quarry, which opened in 1872. From the top of the grassland mesa, visitors can enjoy the spectacular views of Douglas County and the Front Range from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak. The Madge Trail looped trail system on this property has more than 3 miles of trails for hikers, runners and mountain bikers.
