Guided Sunset/Moonrise Hike and Photography Tip Sharing at Prairie Canyon Ranch

July 20, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

IMG_7843Prairie Canyon Ranch is fascinating any time of year, but when the sun is setting behind the wooded cliffs, and the moon is rising over the plains, it’s a treat to experience the sights and sounds of the evening. Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy at 6:00 pm. We will start to assemble at 6:30 to tour the barnyard, and then start our hike to the cliffs for sunset. After the sun disappears, we will turn around and make our way through the savanna Ponderosas to watch the full moon rise in the east (of course, if no clouds get in the way). Bring your cameras along. We will have a few amateur photographers attending the hike, sharing tips and tricks along the way, for taking the perfect sunset and nighttime photos.
Prairie Canyon Ranch
This 978-acre ranch is open by appointment only through Douglas County Open Space and is the site of the County’s annual Open Space Day each summer. Located two miles south of Castlewood Canyon State Park off of State Highway 83, the ranch has been protected since 2000 and was purchased by the County with assistance from Great Outdoors Colorado because of its diverse wildlife habitat and unique ranching history. Hawks, pronghorn antelope, coyotes, deer, elk and great blue herons are all known inhabitants. Until late 2015, it was a working cattle ranch.

Space is limited. The hike is free, but a $10 per person donation to DLC is suggested.
