Ute Prayer Tree Presentation – Perry Park Country Club

July 31, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

2016 PP Ute Prayer Tree PresentationHave you ever noticed a tree that bends in a strange way or has a twisted trunk? It’s probably not a natural occurrence.

During recent hikes and visits to protected open space, Douglas Land Conservancy supporters began to notice oddly shaped trunks and branches on random pine trees. Did you know that these may actually be the handiwork of the Ute Native Americans from centuries ago?

Please join other residents of Larkspur at Perry Park Country Club, on Sunday, July 31st, at 1:30 pm, for a very special presentation by local author, artist, and consultant, John Wesley Anderson.

Based on his book, Ute Indian Prayer Trees of the Pikes Peak Region, John will share about Culturally Modified Trees and the advanced culture of the deeply spiritual people behind the trees. The Utes modified trees for navigational, spiritual, burial, medicinal, nutritional, and educational purposes. The presentation will include images of trees that can be found in our region.

Books will be available for purchase and the author will sign them after the presentation. The event is free! A $10 per person donation is suggested to help support Douglas Land Conservancy’s mission of the conservation of open space in this region of Colorado.
