Last week, DLC honored Chris Hashimoto and Dale Ferg, DLC conservation easement landowners, with the inaugural Mel Sorensen Land Stewardship Award. This award was created to pay homage to those that take responsibility for the landscapes we’ve inherited and ensure they remain healthy, vibrant, and full of life for future generations. Chris and Dale have a passion for their land and the wild creatures that live near them.
“It is an honor to be caretaker of a beautiful piece of property. I have watched DLC evolve over the years from an entity preserving land to an entity with broader goals. DLC’s experiential and educational activities have raised community awareness and appreciation of nature and conservation. DLC may well be fostering conservation leaders of the future”, Hashimoto said.
This award is more than just recognition – it is a tribute to a way of living that inspires all of us to take care of the world around us. Douglas Land Conservancy thanks them very much for their stewardship and also thanks Mel Sorensen, founding board member of DLC, for his continued support of caring for the land of Douglas County and surrounding areas. “The earth has helped and supported us, it’s time we reciprocate. We are just trying to do our part.” -Chris Hashimoto
