AGENTS OF DISCOVERY
Local conservation education & recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities
COMING SOON: A new challenge in 2026!
We know you love the breathtaking views, recreation opportunities, and conservation value that our protected open spaces offer! That’s why you’ve made Decode Douglas County Outdoors a community staple for 8 years. In 2025, Decode is going digital. Embark on a journey with us through the free Agents of Discovery app!
By completing Challenges within each mission, you’ll find fun new ways to experience the beauty of permanently conserved open spaces in Douglas County with the Agents of Discovery app, while learning new things about our environment. In January, you’ll get to know your tour guide Agent Douglas and learn what our black bears are up to in the winter months. This app will replace the Decode booklets and will allow you to learn about the featured open space while you enjoy scenic recreation opportunities. Conquer quests, ace the trivia and explore your backyard! There’s a new mission each month to guide you and your family through the year and help you learn why our home is one of the healthiest and happiest places in the nation. If you can’t get out to the featured open space to Play On-Site, find the Play Anywhere version of that month’s mission to learn about conservation in our region.
The Agents of Discovery app is a partnership between Douglas Land Conservancy and Douglas County Open Space and Natural Resources.
How to Play
1: Download the free Agents of Discovery app and create your Agent profile
2: Find this month’s unique mission and decide whether you’ll Play On-Site or Play Anywhere
If you’re going to Play On-Site, be sure to download the mission before you head out to the property to be able to play without WiFi or data!
3: Use your Secret Agent skills and knowledge to find and unlock Challenges
For Play On-Site missions, Challenges will pop up on your app once you’re within vicinity of that Challenge on the trail. If you’re doing a Play Anywhere mission, you’ll complete all the same Challenges by exploring the digital map of the mission.
4: Solve all Challenges to complete the mission and earn your Honorary Explorer Badge
Congratulations, Explorer! Take a look at the Mission Calendar below to plan your next adventure.
