Stewardship Manager

DLC is seeking an energetic, experienced professional to lead our stewardship team. Based in Castle Rock, Colorado, since 1987, Douglas Land Conservancy is a nonpartisan, nonprofit land trust dedicated to the protection and conservation of open space in the Front Range region of Colorado. DLC holds conservation easements protecting approximately 28,ooo acres of both public and private lands, including agricultural and ranch lands, public recreation open spaces, scenic viewscapes, and critical wildlife habitat and wetlands. Appreciation of the land and its natural beauty is a shared community value for DLC and the region. Through active involvement in the community, education, and outreach, DLC continues to advance conservation. Specific Responsibilities

The Stewardship Manager will coordinate the land trust’s conservation easement stewardship and monitoring programs. This includes working with the Executive Director, Monitoring Coordinator, volunteer monitors, and landowners to complete annual monitoring and address all stewardship inquiries and issues. Collaborates with local, State and Federal agencies to address Stewardship issues and provide educational opportunities for conservation easement landowners and the general public.

  • Responsible for tracking all Stewardship inquiries and responding according to easement and Land Trust Alliance (LTA) requirements.
  • Manage database for tracking conservation easement projects and keep conservation easement records up to date.
  • Responsible for keeping GIS easement records and producing GIS maps.
  • Work with Executive Director (ED) to resolve landowner conflicts and avoid/resolve easement violations.
  • Serve as a liaison between private landowners and public land management agencies to cultivate relationships and provide landowners information to better manage their land.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to keep abreast of national Stewardship issues and LTA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
  • Experience with land trusts and conservation easement stewardship.
  • Experience using LOCATE or similar database.
  • Robust GIS skills – general mapping and analytics.
  • Comfortable speaking with landowners in a variety of situations.
  • Familiarity with Land Trust Alliance stewardship practices and procedures.
  • Outdoor hiking experience and problem-solving skills

 

Compensation

The budgeted salary range for this position is $50,000 – $53,000, commensurate with skills, years of experience, location and unique background and qualifications of the candidate.
