What do Douglas County’s mesas and buttes tell us about geologic history and the events that shaped our landscape? Join us for a car caravan geologic field trip from Franktown to Larkspur as DLC and DCOS volunteer geologists lead you through the story that unravels how our current landforms took shape, and how Douglas County’s geologic processes impacted the course of Colorado’s Platte River. After meeting at Hidden Mesa, we’ll stop at Prairie Canyon Open Space, Lincoln Mountain Open Space, the side of East Greenland Road, and Larkspur City Park.

We’ll meet at the Hidden Mesa Open Space parking lot at 10:00am and expect to return around 2:30pm. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and limited off-trail walking to geologic points of interest. Bring water and snacks! There are restrooms at 4 of the 5 stops.
